The TOEFL test evaluates the English proficiency of people who speak English as a second language. TOEFL test scores are required for admission to some 2,400 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The TOEFL test is also used by colleges and universities in other countries. Government agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English language proficiency of their workforce.
Some clients think it is very difficult to achieve a TOEFL score that is high enough for admission to a good university or college. Any good student can achieve acceptable TOEFL scores with suitable preparation for the test.
EFL has a graduated TOEFL Preparation Program. It is ideal for clients who wish to enter the university system in Canada or the United States. We prepare clients for the TOEFL test quickly and efficiently. Our extensive and progressive programs familiarize clients with computer-based TOEFL testing, to ensure they are completely prepared to take the TOEFL test on computers. Our Resource Development Team constantly prepares and purchases new resources, to ensure our clients have the latest TOEFL preparation tools.
The EFL TOEFL Preparation Program includes four levels. New students are placed in appropriate levels when they begin. Level adjustments are made every 6 weeks, but clients may study as many weeks as they like or finishing earlier in time for their examination and application deadline to the post educational institution of their choice. TOEFL preparation courses include: Listening comprehension, structure, reading comprehension and writing.
Pre-TOEFL Preparation - Clients review basic grammar, build vocabulary and develop reading and listening skills. Clients also do some practice TOEFL tests.
Intermediate TOEFL Preparation - Clients learn TOEFL test strategies while enhancing their reading, writing and grammar skills. Clients also do practice TOEFL tests.
Advanced TOEFL Preparation - Although the content is similar to Intermediate TOEFL, it is more advanced. Material studied in Intermediate TOEFL is not repeated in Advanced TOEFL.
TOEFL Exam PREP - Emphasis is on developing Computer Based Test (CBT) strategies. Clients also enhance their vocabulary and writing skills. Much of the time is spent in a computer lab.
A Summary of the TOEFL Examination
The computer-based TOEFL test has four sections. The first two sections of the test -- Listening and Structure -- are computer-adaptive, meaning that you will receive test questions targeted to your performance level. In these two sections, your first question will be of average difficulty. The question you receive next will be one that best fits your performance and the design of the test. In the Listening and Structure sections, you will be able to change your answer as often as you like until you have made your final choice, confirmed your answer and moved on to the next one. Once you move on to the next question, you will NOT be allowed to go back to a previous question. Your answer to each question presented on the screen helps determine the difficulty level of the next question you will be given.
Listening - Measures ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America. You will use headphones to listen to the conversations and talks. While you are listening, pictures of the speakers or other information will be presented on your computer screen. There are two parts to the Listening section, with special directions for each part.
Structure - Measures ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
Reading - Measures ability to read and understand short passages similar in topic and style to those that students are likely to encounter in North American universities and colleges. This section contains reading passages and questions about the passages.
